EXTRA MILE FOR MUSHERS
ATTENTION MUSHERS: Are you ready to take the next step and just not sure how to go about it? Or perhaps you are tired of making excuses and mistakes? BRRR race teams have been becoming more and more competitive with each passing year and have many requests for information on just how we are accomplishing this. We are always willing and excited to "talk dogs" with fellow mushers, but if you really want to learn there is a better way - reserve a date to come and join us!

Two time Championship leaders, ready to go again!

There really is no substitution for hands on learning, regardless of what your ultimate goals are - recreational mushing, sprint, mid-distance, or Iditarod - and it all begins with fall training. We at Bark River Racing have the experience, patience and dedication to help you work through your training issues and believe there are "no bad dogs", just trainers who need more training. Come and join us for a weekend, bring your ATV and your team, and experience the difference.

$300 per day (7:00am - 5:00 pm*) for 2 mushers, + $50 each additional musher- family style brunch and dinner included.

*times can be adjusted if needed to accommodate your travel and  will be adjusted if the weather conditions warrent

The Extra Mile for Mushers is a hands on, in the mud, no excuses allowed, training experience! You might want to bring extra boots as we have everything from sand to red clay for you and your team to play in rain or shine! Don't expect rest and relaxation, although there will be plenty of time for discussion around the fire, and we train no matter what the conditions. This time is meant to train sled dogs and to work on what you need to improve your team's performance. Don't even start to have excuses as you can't come up with anything that we did not use in the past, and excuses just lead to a team that is not trained come that first snow fall.

"Its going to be too warm to train today."    So what? Get up early.
"The darn ATV isn't working."  So what? Aren't you training your dogs to pull?
"Its going to rain all weekend."  So what? You will not melt.
"I worked hard all week and I need a day off." So what?

Don't hesitate. We are opening our training time to you, not to make a million, but because we have been where you are right now.  Come on ... what is your excuse this time??

What to expect from your Musher's Extra Mile Experience -
Bring your handler, they want to learn too!

It begins with traveling tips:
How to pack for a trip with your team.
Calculating just when to feed and water your team prior to the journey  and while in transit.

Once you arrive:
Depending upon the time of day or night, we will discuss the itinerary for the day/weekend, keeping in mind that the schedule is always fluid and flexible.  Then time to get equipment ready, checking for any issues before we get started hooking up.

Getting started:
It begins in the yard with training tips and encouragement, including lessons such as "keep tight" and "keep quiet" (you not the dogs). The hooking up process can often make, or break, your run.

On the trail:
Once on the trail you will have a chance to ask the questions and deal with the issues that have been hindering you. The issues that have been keeping you, and your team, from reaching their full potential. BRR mushers will be there with you to help YOU train YOUR team.

Discussion Time:
Once the team is back, cared for, watered, fed, and resting, then is the time for everyone to gather and discuss the successes and challenges of the day. Topics of discussion will also include, the importance of keeping logs, schedules, nutrition, foot care, using your cooker, and much more.

Meals and lodging:
Hot water is available for your dogs. Meals will be served family style and when they fit into the day! If you have special dietary needs please let us know well in advance of your arrival. There is lodging available near BRR, and during the summer and fall seasons there is a local campground on the shores of beautiful Lake Superior.
